Napoleone Martinuzzi

Elephant figurine in black glass finish in green pasta vitrea

The variegated zoo of imaginary animals dreamed up by Napoleone Martinuzzi could not but include the elephant, the symbol of prosperity and exotic climes. Martinuzzi produced various versions in different poses and materials. His animals in surprising colours never fail to transmit a subtle humour that adds further appeal. What makes this elephant figure so particular is the combination of black with a sort of chalcedony previously used by the artist to trim some of his most famous works.
