Guido Balsamo Stella’s animal figurines began enjoying great success in 1930 following their presentation at the Venice Bienniale and the International Decorative Arts Exhibition in Monza. Blown glass figurines first appeared at the SAIAR Ferro Toso glassworks at the close of 1920s. Guido Balsamo Stella had worked for years as a designer of engraved glass, first in Colle Val d’Elsa, and from 1925 in Murano at SALIR together with the celebrated decorator Franz Pelzel.
